Consumer Unit Upgrades (Fuse Boxes)
An old fuse box with wire fuses does very little to stop an electric shock. A modern consumer unit cuts the power in a split second when something goes wrong. Every circuit gets its own safety switch, so one fault does not black out the whole house. New units in homes also come in a metal case, which stops a fire spreading.
We test your circuits before we fit anything, because a new board can show up faults the old one was hiding. If we find any, we tell you before we go on. Every switch is labelled when we finish. As NAPIT approved contractors we register the work with Building Control for you and you get the certificate.

Consumer unit questions, answered
How much does a new consumer unit cost?
It depends on how many circuits you have and the state of the wiring. We look first, then give you one fixed price in writing before we start.
How long does it take?
Most homes take one day. The power is off for part of it, so tell us about freezers or home working and we will plan around them.
Do I need a new consumer unit?
Not always. If yours has wire fuses, a wooden back or no safety switch, it is worth replacing. We will tell you straight if yours is fine.
Do you upgrade boards in businesses too?
Yes. We fit new distribution boards in shops, offices and units, planned around your opening hours.
